A Report on the Meeting Between Ali Kebriyaizadeh, Cultural Counselor of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Professor Nilanti De Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka
On Tuesday, 18 November (corresponding to 27 Aban), Mr. Ali Kobraei-Zadeh met and held discussions with Professor Nilanti de Silva at the University of Kelaniya. During the meeting, Professor de Silva provided an overview of the University of Kelaniya. She stated that the university was established in 1875 and today plays a significant role in enhancing academic education and developing human resources in Sri Lanka. She added that the university has made a considerable contribution to the revival of Sri Lankan thought and values.

During the meeting, Professor de Silva provided an overview of the University of Kelaniya. She stated that the university was established in 1875 and today plays a significant role in enhancing academic education and developing human resources in Sri Lanka. She added that the university has made a considerable contribution to the revival of Sri Lankan thought and values.

Professor de Silva noted that the University of Kelaniya is now a modern higher-education institution with an outstanding academic reputation, offering a wide range of programs in the humanities, medical sciences, and basic sciences. The university currently hosts approximately 150 to 200 international students and maintains academic cooperation and exchanges of students and faculty with numerous countries, including China, Japan, Thailand, India, Estonia, and others. She also emphasized the longstanding and positive relations between Iran and Sri Lanka.Mr. Kobraei-Zadeh, following the usual courtesies, stated that relations between Iran and Sri Lanka have existed since ancient times and have always been friendly; consequently, the people of the two countries hold a good understanding of one another. He added that Iran enjoys a distinguished scientific standing, and Iranian universities have achieved significant progress and notable academic accomplishments in various scientific fields.
He further expressed the Cultural Counsellorship’s readiness to facilitate academic engagement between the University of Kelaniya and Iranian universities, including the exchange of faculty members and students. He highlighted that opportunities are available to award scholarships at the master’s and doctoral levels to outstanding students interested in pursuing their studies in Iran.Additionally, Mr. Kobraei-Zadeh expressed willingness to organize cultural and civilizational seminars, as well as sessions with the students of the University of Kelaniya on topics related to Iran.
